Fiber laser technology stands as one of the most academically vibrant and industrially impactful fields in laser science today, with strong application demands in high-end manufacturing, aerospace, life sciences and healthcare, scientific research, and beyond.
 
To strengthen international academic exchange, promote the deep integration of industry, academia and research, and advance the high-end and self-reliant development of China's fiber laser industry, the 2026 International Symposium on Advanced Fiber Lasers (AFL2026) is organized by the Chinese Society for Optical Engineering (CSOE) and co-organized by the Chongqing Research Institute, East China Normal University and other institutions. The symposium will be held in Chongqing from October 30 to November 1, 2026.
The conference will bring together world-renowned experts and scholars for in-depth discussions on the latest progress, technical bottlenecks, and future trends in novel materials, core devices, key technologies, integrated systems, and cutting-edge applications of fiber lasers.
AFL has been listed in the CAST Catalogue of Important Academic Conferences for four consecutive years, and is committed to building a world-class international event in the global fiber laser community.(光纤激光是当前激光技术领域最具产业价值的核心前沿方向,在高端制造、精密医疗、前沿科研、航空航天等领域需求旺盛。为加强国际学术交流、推动产学研深度融合、促进我国光纤激光产业高端化自主化发展,中国光学工程学会联合国内光纤激光领域优势单位,共同组织国际先进光纤激光研讨会(AFL2026)。会议将邀请全球知名院士、专家学者齐聚,深入探讨光纤激光新型材料、核心器件、关键技术、整机系统及前沿应用的最新进展、技术瓶颈与发展趋势。AFL 已连续五年入选中国科协《重要学术会议指南》,致力于打造全球光纤激光领域顶尖国际盛会)。

Johan Nilsson

Johan Nilsson (University of Southampton, UK)
(Biography: Johan Nilsson is Professor at the Optoelectronics Research Centre, University of Southampton, where he leads a research group on high-power fibre lasers. 
 
His main areas of interests are guided-wave lasers and amplifiers, nonlinear optics, fiber optics, coherent beam combination, and other applications of lasers and optoelectronics. His research on high-power fiber laser sources has led to several demonstrations of new devices and record achievements. This includes the first fiber laser with over 1 kW of output power in a nearly diffraction-limited beam, the first high-power Tm-doped fiber laser at 0.82 µm, the first cladding-pumped fiber Raman laser, and the highest output power from an Er-doped fiber laser. He has co-authored over 500 publications, including three of the five highest-cited papers on ytterbium-doped fibre lasers. He is a fellow of Optica and SPIE, and a deputy editor of Optics Express.


He co-founded Southampton Photonics and has collaborated widely with industry. Johan holds a doctorate from KTH, Stockholm, and has worked in both academia and industry across Europe and Korea.)

Marcello Ferrera(Heriot‑Watt University,UK)
(Biography: Marcello Ferrera is Professor of Nanophotonics at Heriot-Watt University, UK, within the Institute of Photonics and Quantum Sciences, where he also serves as Director of the MSc program in Quantum Technologies. His research focuses on time-varying photonics and ultrafast light–matter interactions in low-index and epsilon-near-zero materials, with applications spanning optical signal processing, quantum photonics, and neuromorphic computing. He has made significant contributions to nonlinear and ultrafast optics, including the development of novel platforms for extreme light manipulation on sub-wavelength and sub-picosecond scales.)

Through a diverse range of satellite events, the conference provides a platform for researchers at all career stages in the field of fiber lasers to showcase their work and engage in academic exchange.

1. Fiber Laser Three-Year Outstanding Achievement Exhibition
Open to research teams in the fiber laser field from China and abroad, this exhibition calls for submissions of the latest technological or application advances in fiber lasers achieved by each team during 2024–2026. Through initial review, on-site presentation, and on-site voting, the Top Five Fiber Laser Advances of 2026 will be selected.

2. Fiber Laser Young Scholars Forum & Master‑PhD Student Session
To further foster the development of young‑talent teams, this conference has established a dedicated academic exchange platform for young researchers. It focuses on state‑of‑the‑art technologies and application frontiers in fiber lasers. It encourages interdisciplinary interactions to spark innovative ideas and boost young scholars’ academic growth and collaborations. Please refer to the table below for participation modalities and relevant information. The exact date and schedule for this session will be announced separately. Young scholars are warmly welcome to submit papers and register for participation.
